It goes without saying that NFL football is my all-time favorite sport. Nevertheless, there are several other sports holding strong at the top of my list that make this an awesome time of year!
Growing up, my dad was a huge fish and game kind of guy. As luck would have it, he landed three daughters, none of whom acquired much interest in hunting. Fishing, on the other hand, has always been a family past-time enjoyed by all! As the weather warms each year, I look forward to heading out into the Long Island Sound where we travel off Fishers Island, NY or Watch Hill, RI to catch fluke (a summer flounder flatfish) on the family fishing boat. It always becomes a competition who can score the largest catch, and admittedly my youngest sister, Amber, usually wins.
March brings the madness, and this year’s NCAA tournament proved especially crazy! Considering I grew up in CT and I’m UConn alumni, there’s no doubt I bleed Husky blue. When it came time to create my annual March Madness bracket, many Husky fans bailed on the team for higher ranked seeds. But not this Husky! Instead, I took UConn all the way to the big win! If a double NCAA championship isn’t brag-worthy enough, my NCAA Men’s bracket also included 3 of the final four teams and I even had Kentucky vs. UConn in the Championship game! Needless to say, I’ll be basking in bracket victory until the madness commences once again.
Another one of my favorite sporting events includes horse racing, an interest heightened by my time living in horse country, Kentucky, last year. Attending the Kentucky Derby was merely a bucket-list to-do until last May when I was able to watch “The Run for the Roses” live, from the stands at Churchill Downs. I must have good luck, because my pick “Orb,” won that year, making it an even more exciting 2 minutes! Even though I’ll be watching the Triple Crown races from my living room next year, you can bet I’ll still be wearing a fabulous hat!
I’ll see you on the sidelines Pats fans! Cheers,Brittany
