Inside the Numbers: Regular Season Recap

As the new year begins, we take a look back at some of records that were set and some of the numbers that made 2013 unique.

The Patriots were losing 24-0 at halftime vs. Denver before rallying for a 34-31 overtime win. Teams are 6-617 in games trailing by at least 24 at halftime for a winning percentage of .0096.

The Patriots defense held Saints TE Jimmy Graham without a catch in Week 6. Graham entered the game averaging 118.6 yards per game.

Stephen Gostkowski now has two game-winning field goals in overtime (vs. Denver (11/14/13) and vs. Baltimore (10/17/10), with both coming with 1:56 remaining in overtime.

Rookie free agent WR Kenbrell Thompkins caught two touchdown passes vs. Tampa Bay (9/22/13) to become the first rookie free agent to catch two touchdown passes in a game since Blair White of Indianapolis in 2010.

Stephen Gostkowski kicked two 53-yard field goals in the win at Houston on Dec. 1. He is the only Patriots player to kick two 50- yard field goals in the same game. He also had two 50-yard field goals vs. Arizona on Sept. 16, 2012.

Stephen Gostkowski executed a successful onside kick in a victory vs. Cleveland (12/8/13) for only the second time in team, history. The first came when Jim Lee Hunt recovered a Gino Cappelletti kick at the end of the first half in a 26-10 win vs. the NY Jets (9/27/64)

The Patriots own the top three totals in NFL history for most ball control plays from scrimmage with 1,199 in 1994, 1,191 in 2012 and 1,187 in 1995.

Julian Edelman (13) and Danny Amendola (10) each had 10 or more receptions at Miami on Dec. 15, 2013. It is the fourth time in team history that the Patriots had at least two players finish with at least 10 receptions in the same game.

Rookie Logan Ryan returned his first career interception 79 yards for a touchdown at the NY Jets (10/20) to become the 11th Patriots player to return his first career pick for a touchdown.

The Patriots have compiled a winning record in 13 consecutive seasons and are the third team in NFL history to have 13 straight winning seasons since the 1970 merger.

The number of consecutive home wins against AFC East opponents after the 34-20 win vs. Buffalo (12/29/13).

Stephen Gostkowski has kicked 24 straight fourth quarter field goals.

The Patriots came back from a 24-point deficit to defeat Denver 34-31 on Nov. 24, 2013, the largest comeback win in team history.

Brady is tied with John Elway as the only quarterback to lead his team to five conference titles. Brady needs to play in one more Super Bowl to match DL Mike Lodish for the most Super Bowls played. Lodish played in six (four with Buffalo and two with Denver).

The number of division championships by Tom Brady, the most division titles ever by a quarterback. Peyton Manning is second with 10.

The longest streak of consecutive pass completions by Brady in a regular season game (Dec. 27, 2009 vs. Jacksonville).

Brady set a Super Bowl record with 16 straight pass completions in super Bowl XLVI vs. the New York Giants.

The number of times Brady has led his team to victory following a fourth-quarter deficit or tie, including five times in 2013 when he led the team to a win at Buffalo, vs. New Orleans, vs. Denver, at Houston and vs. Cleveland.

Brady is 45-7 in his career in December and has the best win percentage in December for any quarterback since the merger in 1970.

The percent of quarterback keepers converted by Brady (90 of 95) for first downs (67-of-69 on third-and-2 or less and 23 of 26 on fourth-and-2 or less).

Tom Brady leads the NFL with 5,949 passing yards in the postseason.
