News Blitz 7/11: Brandon Bolden expected to be ready for Training Camp

Posted Jul 11, 2013

The Patriots.com News Blitz gets you up to date with the latest news from local and national media.

Jay Withrow of the Omaha World-Herald reports that Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard was arrested early Thursday morning in Lincoln, Nebraska on suspicion of drunk driving.

Dennard was pulled over by police after his car was spotted straddling the lane line around 2 a.m.

"He was arrested on suspicion of DUI, refusing a chemical test and a driving infraction. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 12," adds Withrow.

Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports that Patriots RB Brandon Bolden was unable to participate in the team's offseason workout programs due to a sprained ankle.  The injury occured last winter.

"Bolden suffered the ankle sprain while lifting weights on his own, when he didn't have his ankle planted correctly, a source familiar with the injury said," writes Schefter. "He is scheduled to meet with team trainers on Monday and believes his ankle has healed sufficiently, according to a source."

Schefter adds that Bolden is expected to be ready for the start of Training Camp.

Mike Rodak of ESPNBoston.com gives Patriots WR Michael Jenkins a 75% chance to make the 53-man roster.

"He's not quite the same player he was during his best seasons in Atlanta, but Jenkins has the makings of a consistent, reliable veteran presence in a passing game that will be in need of one," writes Rodak.

"While he doesn't offer much as a vertical receiver, Jenkins can easily earn a role as a big target who can work outside the numbers and in the red zone."

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald visited with Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski at his book signing at the Prudential Center in Boston on Thursday. Howe notes that Gronkowski no longer has a cast on his surgically-repaired left forearm, and that he didn't appear to have a back brace underneath his T-shirt.

"I can tell you this," Gronkowski said. "I'm in great spirits. I'm enjoying life a lot more. I can tell you that right there."

Mary Paoletti of CSNNE.com believes rookie Ryan Allen will be Zoltan Mesko's first Training Camp competition at punter in three years.

"Though he went undrafted, the 6-2, 215-pounder is considered an excellent pickup and shouldn't have trouble landing on the practice squad," writes Paoletti. "This season marks the last on Mesko's rookie contract, so perhaps Allen is insurance against the current starter bolting during free agency."
