The Patriots.com News Blitz gets you up to date with the latest news from local and national media.

Field Yates of ESPNBoston.com reports that the Patriots have re-signed RT Sebastian Vollmer, according to a league source. "He underwent minor knee surgery in February, which will naturally affect how he approaches this offseason, but he is expected to be ready for training camp," adds Yates. With the signing, the Patriots will bring back their entire starting offensive line for 2013.

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com wonders whether Marcus Cannon will see more time at guard in 2013 following the reported signing of RT Sebastian Vollmer. "Cannon, who was a top option to replace Vollmer at right tackle if Vollmer signed elsewhere, has taken reps at right guard in the past," writes Reiss. Dan Connolly is currently slated to be the starting right guard for the Patriots next season according to Reiss' projections.

Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald writes that Jeff Demps is focused on continuing his track career. "Demps told Sports Talk Florida that he is serious about his commitment to the track season, which is getting under way with the competition portion of the schedule and even mentioned, 'if I'm not able to do football anymore.' So, it sounds like he knows there could be a serious possibility of a conflict of interest, both in his own view and the Patriots' vision," writes Howe. Demps remains under contract with the Patriots for two more seasons.

Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com believes that Julian Edelman's foot injury that landed him on IR last season is the reason the dynamic wide receiver remains a free agent. "While I believe he is still in the mix to return to the Patriots, I also wouldn't be surprised if there is some competition from others to sign him," adds Reiss.

Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer believes the Browns may still have interest in Patriots backup quarterback Ryan Mallett. "Some still think they'll make another pitch for Patriots backup Ryan Mallett, and there's always that chance the Browns will draft a quarterback," she adds.
