Final Regular Season PFW NFL Power Rankings

Posted Jan 2, 2014

We wrap up the 2013 regular season with our final PFW NFL power rankings of the year.

Patriots Football Weekly has created a weekly Power Ranking based on the proprietary Wilson-Hart Power Index. The system uses the most important statistics in the game - those most closely associated to winning and losing - to rank all 32 NFL teams based on their performance to date this season.

The final installment of the Wilson-Hart Power Index for 2013 shows that the Seattle Seahawks were not only the best team in football this season, they were the best team by a solid margin. San Francisco and Kansas City finished the season in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.

The Bengals made a late-surge to jump the Patriots for the No. 4 spot, while New England finished at No. 5 overall.

Looking at the Index as a whole, the first 10 spots all qualified for the postseason, while San Diego, No. 14, and Green Bay, No. 17, are worst of the teams to make the 12-team playoffs. On the flip side, near-playoff teams such as the Cardinals, Bears and Steelers are rank higher than the Chargers and Packers.

At the bottom of the Index, Bill O’Brien’s new team, the Texans, finished with the No. 32 spot, “beating out” the Jags for the basement.

Without taking into account home-field advantage, using the Wilson-Hart Power Index one might expect the 49ers, Chiefs, Bengals and Saints to take care of business on Wild Card Weekend!
